POETRY BY DEANNA BUNTIN

A Noble Profession

There's a rumor in this world today,
That to be a mother doesn't pay.
It may not be the thing for you,
for me it's all I want to do.
I've heard it said, it takes no skill,
But hear me friend, if you will,
I have worked in your world out there,
and nothing I did, could even compare.
I have changed the diaper of my two year old son,
While feeding a bottle to the baby that's one!
Try if you will to visit and dine,
while helping five children that stand there and whine.
I often have to bandage a knee,
While telling a story to my son that is three.
I can settle an awful fight,
while helping with homework, and cooking each night.
You may not think that these take skill,
but try them once, and then you will.
As for the thought, it does not pay,
I get paid most everyday!
The world's money I do not earn,
There's a better payment, I hope you'll learn.
Everytime my babies smile,
there's my paycheck, it's all worthwhile.
There's nothing I could find in any paycheck,
like the feeling I get when my girls hug my neck.
There's another thing on this payment plan,
The joy of seeing your son become a man
and knowing for sure, being always aware,
That you were who raised him, and that's why he's there.
I know to some it might seem odd,
but Motherhood is the plan of God.

A Little Bit Of Rodeo and A whole lot of Fun
by
Deanna Buntin

A LITTLE BIT OF RODEO. AND A WHOLE LOT OF FUN.

THAT EXPLAINS ME, WHEN IT'S ALL SAID AND DONE!

I LOVE TO GO TO RODEO'S, IT'S SO MUCH FUN, OF COURSE.

THERE'S NOTHING I WOULD RATHER DO EXCPT TO RIDE MY HORSE.

I'M GOOD AT RIDING SHEEP I'M TOLD

I HAVE A TROPHY, IT LOOKS LIKE GOLD!!

I'VE GOT A BUCKLE I WON IT TOO,

FOR RUNNING BARRELS WHICH I LIKE TO DO.

I'VE BEEN TO LOTS OF RODEOS

AND SEEN THE QUEENS IN FANCY CLOTHES!

I TOLD MY MOM THATS WHAT I'LL BE,

SOMEDAY I'LL BE A RODEO QUEEN YOU'LL SEE!

I'LL RIDE DOWN THERE WITH THOSE PRETTY GIRLS.

AND GET ALL DRESSED UPMY HAIR IN CURLS.

I'LL WAVE AND SMILE SO THE CROWD CAN SEE

JUST HOW MUCH FUN A RODEO CAN BE

MY DADDY SAID, YOU'RE AWFULLY SMALL!!

THE QUEENS I'VE SEEN ARE ALL QUITE TALL..

OH NO MOM SAID, THAT IS NOT TRUE

I'VE SEEN QUEENS AS SMALL AS YOU.

THE STATE HAS ONE THAT YOU WILL FIT

THAT QUEEN IS CALLED MISS LITTLE BIT

SO HERE I AM A GIRL OF THE WEST.

JUST TRYING HARD TO DO MY BEST!

SO LONG FOR NOW FROM THIS QUEEN TO BE.

THE NEXT MISS LITTLE BIT JUST WAIT AND SEE!!.

Having Fun At Rodeo
by
Deanna Buntin

HAVING FUN AT RODEO

THERE IS NOTHING ELSE TO DO

IF YOUVE NEVER BEEN THERE

ILL EXPLAIN TO YOU!

THROW ON A PAIR OF WRANGLERS

AND LEATHER JUSTIN BOOTS

AND DRINK SOME COKE A COLA

AND LOOK DOWN AT THE CHUTES

RODEOS A HAPPY PLACE

WHERE LAUGHTER WILL BE HEARD

EXCEPT FOR BY THE COWBOY

WHO JUST GOT PLACED IN THIRD

THERE ARE PEOPLE SO EXCITED

EVERY WHERE YOU LOOK

YOU CAN NOT GET THIS FEELING

FROM THE TV OR A BOOK!

THERE IS NOTHING LIKE THE SILENCE

OF A CROUD STARING SO INTENSE

AS A BULL WITH A RIDER

TRIES TO JUMP A FENCE

IF YOU LISTEN CLOSELY

YOU WILL VERY LIKELY HEAR

THE PRAISING OF A COWGIRL

WHEN HER COWBOY TURNS HIS STEER

ILL TELL YOU WHAT IS CRAZY

AND A VERY AWESOME SIGHT

TO WATCH A CLOWN TEASE A BULL

THAT IS REALLY ON THE FIGHT

WHEN THE COWBOY LEAVES THE CHUTE

ATOP A HORSE WITH BUCK

YOU CAN SEE THAT THIS TAKES SKILL

AND A LITTLE BIT OF LUCK

ILL TELL YOU THOUGH MY FAVORITE PART

ITS ALWAYS AT THE VERY START

THE QUEENS RIDE IN AND LOOK SO PROUD

AS THEY WAVE AND SMILE AT THE CHEERING CROWD

ITS A BEAUTIFUL AND INSPIRING SIGHT TO SEE

AND IM SURE SOMEDAY IT WILL BE ME!

THERES A FEELING YOU GET HEARTWARMING AND GRAND

WHEN THE ANNOUNCER INSTRUCTS THE WHOLE CROWD TO STAND!

I GET THE CHILLS AT THE THOUGHT OF THIS SCENE

THE AMERICAN FLAG DOWN THERE IN THE RING

AS HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE RAISE THEIR RIGHT HAND

TO PLEDGE THEIR ALLEGENCE TO THIS GREAT LAND

THEN THERES THAT SONG WE ALL LOVE TO HEAR

I SING IT WITH PRIDE WHILE WIPING A TEAR

THERES NOTHING QUITE LIKE IT

THIS RODEO SPORT

I COULD TELL YOU LOTS MORE

BUT ILL KEEP IT SHORT

COME SEE FOR YOURSELF

HOW MUCH FUN IT CAN BE!

IF YOU LOOK REAL HARD

YOULL PROBABLY SEE ME!

Women and Rodeo
by
Charlotte Allgood-McCoy

BELLE STARR WAS AN OUTLAW WILD HORSES SHE RODE

ARE THE WORDS FROM A SONG THAT USED TO BE TOLD.

IN MOVIES DALE EVANS WAS "QUEEN OF THE WEST".

IN REAL LIFE SHE ALWAYS GIVES GOD HER BEST.

WHETHER BELLE STARR WAS WAITING FOR SAM BASS TO SHOW

OR DALE WAS HELPING ROY COME WIND,RAIN OR SNOW.

THE LEGENDS THEY SET FOR RIDING GREAT STEEDS

FITS IN WITH RODEO WOMENS GREAT DEEDS.

THE COWGIRL HALL OF FAME IS THE PLACE

WHERE MANY ARE LISTED BY NAME AND BY FACE.

THERE ARE PICTURES AND BUCKLES OF CHAMPION LADIES,

THERE ARE NAMES AND STORIES OF RANCH WIVES WITH BABIES.

THERE ARE WOMEN WHO WRITE BOOKS

ABOUT COWBOYS , RODEO AND HOW THE REAL WEST LOOKS!

SOME WOMEN RIDE BULLS, WE ALL KNOW TAMMY KELLY.

SOME SIT IN THE STANDS THEN GO HOME AND MAKE JELLY.

THERE ARE THOSE WHOSE ABILITY STANDS WITH THE BEST.

LIKE THE TRICKRIDERS I'VE SEEN, LINDA SCHOLTZ AND MARY TEST.

SO WHETHER YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT COWGIRLS OF OLD.

LIKE THE DENT SISTERS, WHO WERE KNOWN AS HORSEWOMEN BOLD.

OR NEW BARREL RACERS AND FAST POLEBENDERS,

THE MOTHERS, THE WIVES OR WPRA CONTENDERS.

THE WOMAN HAS HAD A MAJOR SAY SO

IN WINNING THE WEST AND IT'S SPORT 'RODEO'!!!

MY LITTLE SISTER
by
Deanna Buntin

I knew when I saw her little pink face,

My sister is blessed with charm and with grace.

She was adorned with gorgeous blonde curls

and dimples as pretty as diamonds and pearls.

The older she gets it's hard to believe,

This blessed little girl is related to me.

This same little girl is talented too.

The horses She rides are proof that it's true.

To watch her grow has been such a pleasure.

The memories I have I always will treasure.

I never will forget the place,

where first I held her, and saw her face.

Then there's the time, I think she was three.

She sat beneath the Christmas tree.

She opened the gifts, her smile in place.

Those dimples so pretty just lit up her face.

My little sister has grown through the years.

With all her share of joy and tears.

I hope she knows how much I care.

God willing I plan to always be there.

YOU ARE NOT WORTHLESS
By Deanna Buntin

I sat in my room one hot summer day,
pondering life that was wasting away.
My life has no purpose I thought to my self
nobody loves me, my life's on a shelf.
A shelf where they put things not cared about,
a shelf where they put things that are worthless no doubt.
I was sure I belonged there amongst all the dust,
ill sit here and stay here and cry till I rust
.My life is just worthless I wish I would die
. I sat there and thought this and started to cry.
I thought how some people make everyone proud.
Why cant I do that for crying out loud.
Why are some special and some can be great,
when others like me have terrible fate.
GOD CAN YOU HELP ME MAKE SOMBODY PROUD?
Please can you help me I yelled really loud!
I had no idea he was listening to me,
at once came the answer you can be free.
I can be free is that what you said
yes you can start living where once you were dead.
You can be free from sins of the past
and free from opinions of others at last
I waited for you to ask this of me,
you want someone proud im proud as can be.
I love you so much, I want you with me.
So I sent my son to die on a tree.
Your so special to me I knew you would pray.
I sent him before you, for I saw this day.
I have to save her she cannot die!
I sent my son the price was high.
He paid the price your soul he bought,
you are not worthless, no your not
Thank you God and thank your son
for once in life I'm number one.
